A mental problem can break someone apart. Many people around the world suffer of a mental illness and lack treatment due to financial problems. Psychology can help those people in need and supply a strike of hope for those individuals. Mental illnesses make one feel trapped in a “dysfunctional body”. Many people judging the way you behave but maybe you don’t understand why the sudden mood swings, or why one is always isolates, why one cannot enjoy a day with the family because sadness takes over your body. Schizophrenia Ranks among the top 10 causes of disability in developed countries worldwide. Schizophrenia is a mental disorder that makes it hard to: Tell the difference between what is real and not real; Think clearly; Have normal emotional responses; Act normally in social situation. Over 2.2 million people were diagnosed with schizophrenia in the United States or America. Thanks to psychology and its advanced studies, this illness was diagnosed. Schizophrenia is a serious disorder of the mind and brain but it is also highly treatable. Although there is no cure (as of 2007) for schizophrenia, the treatment success rate with anti-psychotic medications and psycho-social therapies can be high. If the appropriate level of investment is made in research, it has been estimated that a cure for schizophrenia could be found within 10 years (by the year 2013(Schizophrenia Facts and Statistic,2012). Bipolar disorder affects approximately 5.7 million American adults, or about 2.6 percent of the U.S. population age 18 and older in a given year. Bipolar disorder is a condition in which a person has periods of depression and periods of being extremely happy or being cross or irritable. It is treatable.

Many individuals end up in jail due to mental illnesses and the world should be aware of this. Psychology knows the cure and us, as society, should be a part of the solution and advocate for those who are ill. Everyone deserves to live a normal and healthy life; denying health care will only be a part of the problem.
